CPL 2024: Shamar Joseph's Direct Hit Gets Rilee Rossouw Run Out

On September 21, Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by a critical 30-run margin in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024's match number 21. The team's victory was mostly due to Shamar Joseph's outstanding all-around performance.

Guyana Amazon Warriors batted first to start the game and amassed a respectable 137/8 in the 20 overs that were given to them. Shimron Hetmyer, a left-hand batsman, scored a scorching 63 runs off just 33 balls, smashing five sixes and four boundaries. Hetmyer's aggressive innings gave the Warriors a strong finish, even though Ashmead Nedd's excellent 4/25 bowling stats for the Patriots helped.

Joseph had a flash of genius that ended the Patriots' innings as they were chasing 138. With the match on the line, Joseph performed an incredible run-out in the fifteenth over. Joseph ran towards the ball, grabbed it up with one hand, and struck it directly at the striker's end, catching Rilee Rossouw short of his crease, while Evin Lewis dabbed a shortish delivery towards the off-side.

Following the run-out, the Patriots collapsed, losing their final six wickets for a meagre 16 runs. In addition to taking three wickets for only nine runs in 2.3 overs, Joseph had an outstanding day with the ball in his hands as well.

Although Evin Lewis led the Patriots in scoring with 49 points off 46 balls, his teammates' lack of cooperation ultimately proved to be their undoing. With Joseph leading the charge and Moeen Ali providing a cost-effective 2/9 spell, the Warriors' bowling attack destroyed the Patriots for 107 in 18.3 overs.

With this win, the Warriors moved up to the second position in the standings, while the Patriots dropped their eighth straight game in the competition. Hetmyer's vital half-century earned him the Player of the Match honour.
