Ahead of the foreign draft for the 2017 Big Bash League season, Adelaide Strikers have signed Jamie Overton as their international pre-signing. Over the previous two seasons, the English bowling all-rounder has played in 18 games for the Strikers. With 11 wickets and 191 runs last season, the 31-year-old was the Strikers' MVP.

For those who are unaware, the BBL changed the rules regarding foreign players before the 2024–25 season. Before the draft, teams were permitted to sign one foreign player. The player must be present for the full season, including the championship game, by league rules. The purpose of this amendment was to stop players from moving to other leagues.

Jamie Overton was an outstanding player, even if the squad had a difficult BBL 14 season. During the season, he took 11 wickets, including a vital 2-27 in an intense 11-run defeat to the Hobart Hurricanes at Adelaide Oval. Overton's talents went beyond just the ball; he was also a devastating batsman, scoring 191 runs at an incredible average of 95.40, with a high of 45 not out.

Jamie Overton is Ready for BBL:

In a statement, he said, I’m absolutely thrilled to be coming back to Adelaide for another season. I’ve loved my time with the Strikers and the incredible support we get from the fans at Adelaide Oval. It’s a fantastic Club with a great bunch of lads, and I’m determined to help us push for finals and ultimately, the BBL title in BBL 15."

Tim Paine, the Adelaide Strikers' head coach, explained why Overton was a "top-priority" addition to the team. He went on to say that he had contributed some exceptional solo performances in the previous two seasons, which really energised the ensemble. ESPNcricinfo cited Paine as saying, "Securing Jamie as a pre-draft signing was a top priority for us. His last two seasons with the Strikers have been outstanding, not just with his individual performances with both bat and ball, but also with his competitive spirit and energy he brings to the group. Jamie has such a big impact on the game, he can change the course of a match in just a few overs."
