Axar Patel Set to Lose T20I Vice-Captaincy as BCCI Plans Shubman Gill’s Return Ahead of Asia Cup 2025

Earlier this year, Axar Patel was named Suryakumar Yadav's backup for the five-match Twenty20 International series against England. He received a reward for continuously doing well in the game's shortest format. The Gujarat all-rounder took six wickets at an average of 16.50 from five games, but he did not impress with the bat. Axar's leadership abilities in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) went on to win over both supporters and detractors. Despite his great leadership, the 31-year-old was unable to lead the Delhi Capitals to the postseason.

According to a recent media rumor, Axar Patel may not be included in the Indian T20I squad for the next Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates next month, since Gill will be reinstated as vice-captain by the BCCI.
