Temba Bavuma, the captain of South Africa, will not play in the forthcoming second and final Test match against Bangladesh because he is still recovering from a left elbow injury. Although the right-hander has made significant strides, he is still not ready for a game. He is still recovering from an elbow injury that kept him out of the first game in Dhaka. In Bavuma's absence, Aiden Markram, who guided South Africa to victory in the opening Test, will continue to captain the squad.

Since injuring his elbow during an ODI match against Ireland earlier this month, the 34-year-old has not participated in any games. Interestingly, the cricket player chose hyperbaric treatment over surgery after breaking his elbow in 2022. This time, he has soft tissue damage and is almost ready to return, but the medical staff has not given the go-ahead.

BAN vs SA 2024 Updates:

Cricbuzz cited head coach Shukri Conrad as stating, “We feel that medically he's not going to be ready for the second Test, and we will tone down the (rehabilitation) programme so that he can be ready for the Sri Lankan series. He's our best Test batter, so, yes, it's a setback. But we've proven that we can deal with setbacks, and we'll deal with that as well."

Aiden Markram will once more take over as captain to guide the Proteas in Bavuma's absence. South Africa defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets in the opening Test on October 24 in Mirpur, moving them up to fourth place in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 rankings.

The Proteas team won in 22 overs before lunch on the fourth day, chasing a score of 106. With an outstanding nine-wicket haul, Kagiso Rabada led South Africa to their first Test victory in the subcontinent in 15 games, something they haven't done since defeating Sri Lanka in Galle in 2014.

In the meantime, South Africa won the first Test match against Bangladesh by seven wickets. The hosts are keen to mount a great comeback, particularly at home, but they will want to maintain the momentum.
