Basit Ali, a former cricket player for Pakistan, criticized an on-field incident during a recent match between India A and Pakistan A during the ACC Men's T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024. Sufiyan Muqeem of Pakistan A and Abhishek Sharma of India A got into a fight.
India A defeated Pakistan A by a slim margin of seven runs in the match played at Al Amerat. But after Sharma was dismissed, Muqeem and Sharma got into a furious argument during the game. In the seventh over, Qasim Akram caught Sharma off Muqeem's bowling after he had amassed a rapid 35 off 22 balls.
Basit Ali disciplines Sufiyan Muqeem:
Basit Ali 🗣️ “If I were sitting in the dugout or the team manager, I would have told Sufiyan, ‘Son, pick up your things and go back.’ You haven’t even played proper cricket for Pakistan yet, and you’re already using abusive language. What kind of behaviour is this?” pic.twitter.com/RntCsqB9NS

After a spectacular catch by Qasim Akram, Sufiyan terminated Abhishek's thrilling knock of 35 off 22 on the opening ball of his spell. Abhishek received a heated farewell from the young left-arm spinner, who put a finger to his lips to indicate hush. The on-field umpires stepped in to defuse the situation as Abhishek lunged at the Pakistan A bowler.
Basit Ali voiced his disapproval of the young spinner's behaviour on his own YouTube channel. The former batter emphasized how crucial it is to keep discipline on the field. He goes on to slam Sufiyan by saying, "The cricket was top-class, but one thing that really upset me was the incident involving Sufiyan Muqeem and Abhishek Sharma, If I were sitting in the dugout or the team manager, I would have told Sufiyan, ‘Son, pick up your things and go back.’ You haven’t even played proper cricket for Pakistan yet, and you’re already using abusive language—what kind of behaviour is this?"
India, meanwhile, is presently ranked second in the standings and will play the United Arab Emirates on October 21 at Al Amerat. In contrast, Pakistan A is now ranked third in the standings. Notably, the Pakistan Shaheens failed to chase the goal of 184 and lost the match by seven runs. In the 20 overs that were given to them, they were able to amass 176/7.
