Ireland batted first in the opening ODI and scored 303 for 6 in 50 overs. Paul Stirling and Andy Balbirnie were just outstanding batsmen. They established the groundwork for an enormous total by scoring 112 and 54 runs, respectively. Harry Tector assumed responsibility for maintaining a high scoring rate after Stirling was dismissed. He contributed 56 runs to Ireland's impressive 303-run total in 50 overs.

West Indies got lost throughout the chase from the very beginning. In the tenth over, they were down to 31 for 5. Following that phase, Matthew Forde and Roston Chase both had strong performances, scoring 38 and 55 runs, respectively, but were dismissed prematurely. Ireland triumphed by 124 runs thanks to four wickets from Barry McCarthy, who also helped bowl the West Indies out for 179.
