During a boring second day of their Duleep Trophy semi-final match against North Zone at the BCCI CEG Ground in Bengaluru on Friday, South Zone amassed an impressive first innings score of 536, denying Jagadeesan Narayan a well-earned double hundred by three runs.

The Central Zone top-order hitters, under the leadership of Danish Malewar, led the side to 229 for two in the other last-four match, providing West Zone with a strong response. West's first innings ended at 438 when Central took four quick wickets, leaving captain Rajat Patidar (47) and batsman Shubham Sharma (60) batting at stumps. To take an innings lead, Central has to score 209 more runs.

Duleep Trophy Semifinals Update:

When the hefty Bhui sold a fool to the Tamil Nadu keeper-batter, Jagadeesan, who had only added three boundaries to his overnight total of 13, he was clearly unlucky. As Jagadeesan ran towards the striker's end, he pushed a ball towards the point in an attempt to get a quick single, but the Andhra man was frozen to his crease. Bhui briefly took the lead in the post-lunch session, striking off-spinner Sahil Lotra for a long-on four and a six. However, Nishant Sindhu (5/125 in 47.2 overs), a left-arm spinner, was dismissed pathetically, behind opposing captain Ankit Kumar by one run.

India medium pacer Anshul Kamboj (2/67 in 24 overs) bowled the second delivery of the day, dismissing South captain Mohammed Azharuddeen (11) at the beginning of the day. However, Jagadeesan and Ricky Bhui did not push the pace during their 87 runs for the fifth wicket, which required 194 deliveries, and Bhui scored 54 off 131 balls. When the hefty Bhui sold a fool to the Tamil Nadu keeper-batter, Jagadeesan, who had only added three boundaries to his overnight total of 13, he was clearly unlucky.
