According to reports, Rishabh Pant, the wicketkeeper-batter and vice captain of India, will miss the rest of the England Test series due to a fractured toe he suffered during the fourth Test in Manchester. Doctors have recommended that Pant have at least six weeks off to recuperate from the injury, which happened on Day 1 of the game at Old Trafford. As a result, he may miss the current fourth Test and the subsequent fifth Test at The Oval.

When this incident occurred, Pant was batting on 37 in the 68th over of the Indian batting innings. He motioned for the physiotherapist to arrive as soon as he was struck on the foot. On the ground, he was treated. He eventually left the field with the assistance of a golf cart because he was unable to support any weight on his foot.

Pant was in pain and unable to bear any weight on his foot when the physiotherapist checked it. Notably, his sock showed obvious blood flow, and his foot was greatly swollen. The batter was eventually carried off the field in a cart. Pant was later transferred to a neighboring hospital for scans, as confirmed by the BCCI. The 27-year-old has been out for at least six weeks after a senior official told The Indian Express that the MRI results indicated a fracture in the toe.

The Indian Express received confirmation from a BCCI source, "The scan report showed a fracture and he is ruled out for six weeks. The medical team is trying to see if he can come out to bat again by taking a painkiller. He still needs support to walk though and chances of his batting looks very bleak."

India skipper Shubman Gill, wearing an anxious expression, came to see how the wicketkeeper was doing while Pant was being treated in the Old Trafford medical room. Due to Pant's injury, Dhruv Jurel will be used as a backup wicketkeeper. He will not be permitted to bat, though, therefore India's ten players will face England's XI for the remainder of the four days.
