Ahead of the IPL 2025 super auctions, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the new retention policy. The wealthiest cricket board complied with the clubs' purported pleas and modified the retention guidelines to include six players instead of just four.
In addition to the five capped players cap stipulated in the new regulation, the sixth player may be uncapped but must not have represented India in an international match or held a centrally contracted player status for the five years before to the auction. With the extra benefit of having one more domestic player in the mix, this gives the side the opportunity to deploy an uncapped player in the retention price band.
What is the IPL 2025 Retention Policy?
The new rule states that each side may keep up to six players. Additionally, by eliminating the cap on the minimum number of foreign players who must be retained and allowing a maximum of five capped players and a maximum of two uncapped players, the new rule has given the teams more options. With this modification, Dhoni, who left the Indian national team a few years ago, meets the requirements to stay with CSK without compromising their capped player slots.
Will the Retention affect the IPL 2025 auction?
Due to the development, a team's purse of 120 crore will be reduced by 75 crore for the five players who have been retained. Prior to the big auctions, the top three retained players had price slabs of 18 crore, 14 crore, and 11 crore. Pricing has been set at 18 crore for the fourth retention and 14 crore for the fifth. A team must pay 4 crore for each uncapped player if they want to keep any of the other five capped retentions.
Each squad will arrive with their starting lineup decided. The duplicate of Mitchell Starc's record-breaking auction may not be visible to fans. Teams must achieve the minimal requirement of 18 players in order to enter half-full. Since every team's other half of the starting lineup is available to teams in need of a star player, RTMs might be highly important.
