Gautam Gambhir, head coach of India, talked candidly about the team's strategy for handling Jasprit Bumrah's workload. This season, Bumrah has participated in all three Test matches at home. He now tops the most recent ICC Test bowling stats and has been playing red-ball cricket in fantastic form. Since winning the T20 World Cup, he has not participated in white-ball cricket.

After losing the first Test in Bengaluru last week, India will try to even the series after three matches. The much-awaited second Test starts on Thursday, October 24. Following the third Test match against New Zealand, India travels to Australia to play the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy series after playing a four-match Twenty20 International series against South Africa. India is probably going to rest the players who are flying to Australia for the South Africa series.

Gautam Gambhir breaks silence:

For India to win three consecutive Border Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia, the 30-year-old pacer will be essential. India will choose to rest him following the second test because the Australia tour is less than a month away. The team management will keep an eye on Bumrah's workload following the Pune match, but Gambhir stated that there will be ample time between the last Test match against New Zealand and the first BGT match.

Talking to the reporters, Gautam Gambhir said, "Once the series is over, we still have around 10 or 12 days before the Test starts in Australia. That is enough break for our fast bowlers as well. But we will still monitor after this Test match where Jasprit Bumrah is. But it's not only about Jasprit Bumrah. It's about all the fast bowlers as well. We want to keep them fresh. We know that obviously, we have got a long tour and an important tour of Australia"

In the first Test, Bumrah wasn't playing at his best. In the first innings, he bowled 19 overs and claimed just one wicket. Despite the chaos generated by Tim Southee, Rachin Ravindra, and Devon Conway, he managed to keep things quite tight. Bumrah made life difficult for the New Zealand batsmen with his swing and seam movement in the second innings, taking two wickets with the new ball.
