According to the trends, the Lucknow Super Giants want to release KL Rahul prior to the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) auction. Franchises have been considering the optimal mix of retention, right-to-match, and new acquisition in the auction since the IPL Governing Council approved the retention regulations.
Given his performance from the previous season and his banishment from Team India's T20I squad, there has been uncertainty around Rahul's future with the Super Giants. According to recent reports, Rahul failed to receive the LSG employers' vote of confidence before to the retention deadline.
KL Rahul fans in shock:
Prior to the 2022 Indian Premier League, Rahul joined the team and led them until the previous season. The Super Giants finished eighth this season after making it to the playoffs in 2022 and 2023. Following LSG's May 8 loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad, owner Sanjiv Goenka was spotted addressing the captain. There have been rumours of a breach between the two ever since. However, some fans believed that Rahul and Goenka had put their differences aside after Rahul visited Kolkata in August to meet.
The Times of India reported that coach Justin Langer and LSG mentor Zaheer Khan examined Rahul's contribution to the team's defeats the previous season. A careful analysis of the data revealed that the more balls Rahul played in the middle, the greater the likelihood that the side would lose.

An IPL source revealed, "The LSG management, including mentor Zaheer Khan and coach Justin Langer, has analysed his stats and it has emerged that the team has almost lost all matches where KL has batted long and scored runs. That indicates that his strike rate doesn't match the momentum of the game. With the Impact Player rule, the scores are getting higher. You can't afford to have someone taking so much time at the top of the order."
LSG hasn't discounted the chance to buy on him at the auction, though. On the day of the auction, the team may choose how much of their purse to spend on the batsman-wicketkeeper. Watch this space for more cricket news.
