Before the intra-squad match at the Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham began, players and staff from India and India A observed a minute's silence in remembrance of those impacted by the Air India plane crash that happened on the afternoon of June 12, close to the Ahmedabad airport.

Shortly after taking off Thursday afternoon from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner (AI171) carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members crashed into a medical college complex. Only one of the 242 passengers survived the disaster, and the other 241 perished.

The entire country was rocked by the aeroplane tragedy. The players and backroom personnel were seen wearing black armbands as a show of unity in a post made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on X (previously Twitter). Since the majority of the players are recovering after a busy Indian Premier League 2025 season, the BCCI organised the tour match between the two teams last month in an effort to give them some red-ball match practice. To honour the victims of a plane disaster, the BCCI shared a few images on X of players wearing black armour and keeping a silent stance.

India vs India A 2025 Update:

The caption read, "The players and members of support staff involved in the intra-squad game in Beckenham are wearing black armbands. A minute's silence was also observed today to pay homage to the victims of the Ahmedabad plane crash, as a mark of respect for the lives lost and solidarity with the affected families."

For Team India, which has reached a transitional phase in red-ball cricket, the intra-squad encounter would be immensely important. To choose the best team lineup for the first Test, the team management will carefully review each player's performance. Over four days, the 360-over match simulation will give the team management a great chance to give their bowlers a lot of practice.
