The Indian team's batting performance at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in the BGT Test was once again awful. Washington Sundar was disappointed after India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy because of yet another controversial umpiring call. On Day 1 of the Sydney Test, third umpire Joel Wilson reversed the on-field not-out call despite the lack of solid evidence, and on Day 5 of the Melbourne Test, third umpire Sailkat called Yashavi Jaiswal out based only on visual evidence.

After attempting to draw the delivery, Washington Sundar was appealed for being caught behind down the leg side, and he was removed for a score of 14. The Australians reviewed it after the umpires had declared it not out, and Snicko made a faint mutter that seemed to indicate that it had touched Sundar's glove en route to the keeper.

Sundar turned to attempt the pull shot but missed the mark in a kind of action repeat of Jaiswal's ejection. Under the leadership of goalie Alex Carey, the Australians made a feeble appeal, but umpire Saikat swiftly rejected it. Even though it could have seemed that there was insufficient proof, the third umpire was able to overturn the on-field umpire's ruling.

India captain Jasprit Bumrah, who batted next, questioned and argued with on-field umpire Michael Gough about the third umpire's decision, which was another one that produced drama. By dismissing Usman Khawaja for just two runs on the final delivery of the day, the Indians found a way to win the day even though they were bowled out for 185 runs. In the slips, Khawaja edged Jasprit Bumrah right into KL Rahul's hands.
