Deep Dasgupta, a former cricket player for India, believes Jasprit Bumrah must play in Manchester during the fourth Test match against England. Despite only appearing in two of the three Test matches, Bumrah has been among India's top bowlers thus far in the series. Bumrah has taken five wickets in both of his games and amassed 12 wickets at an average of 21 from four innings.

India is now behind 1-2 in the five-match Test series against England, going into the final two games. During the first Test at Headingley and the third at Lord's, the talismanic Jasprit Bumrah played. At Edgbaston, the right-arm seamer rested throughout the second Test. Head coach Gautam Gambhir had announced ahead of the series that Bumrah would only be able to play three games because the management was concentrating on keeping an eye on his workload, particularly after he sustained an injury near the end of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–2025 after leading the bowling attack for the majority of the innings.

Jasprit Bumrah to Shine in Manchester Test?

According to Dasgupta, it must be essential because Shubman Gill has also been evasive about the pacer's involvement in the Manchester Test. The former India wicketkeeper claimed to have heard rumours that Bumrah would only play in the first, third, and fifth Test matches in an interview with Star Sports. Dasgupta, however, believes that the Manchester Test is very vital because India is currently 1-2 adrift in the series.

Talking to JioStar Deep said, "Jasprit Bumrah in the fourth Test, absolutely yes. I've heard rumours that the plan for him was to play in the first, third and fifth Tests. But now, when India are 1-2 behind, the fourth Test becomes very, very crucial. You would definitely want the world's best bowler to play. The Lord's Test came to an end on July 14, and the next match is scheduled to be played on July 23. Dasgupta feels that the gap is enough for Bumrah to rest and be ready for the next match. There is an eight-day gap between the two Tests. It remains to be seen whether the fifth Test is still relevant after the fourth Test, but the relevance of the fourth Test is considerable."

Bumrah scored five runs in the Headingley Test's opening innings. He did not take any wickets in the second innings, though, as England managed to reach a goal of 371 runs with five wickets remaining. The 31-year-old scored his first five-for in the first innings of the third Test match at the Home of Cricket. He took a few wickets in the second innings. In the two Test matches thus far, Bumrah has bowled 86.4 overs. His strike rate is 43.33, and his average is 21. Over the next few days, Bumrah's involvement in the fourth Test will be a significant talking point.
