The state government has outlined plans to assist in the construction of a new stadium in Bengaluru that can accommodate 60,000 people, according to Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. The project intends to reduce traffic and enhance crowd control at major public gatherings. Shivakumar stated that a suitable land lot has been found and that all the data will be revealed shortly, even if the precise location has not yet been made public.

Shivakumar acknowledged that the government has found a suitable piece of land and will soon provide all the facts, even though the precise location of the new stadium has not yet been made public.“We have finalised land for a new stadium in Bengaluru. The proposed capacity is 60,000 seats. More information will be shared shortly,” he told reporters that more details would be released soon. The action follows a terrible stampede that killed 11 people and injured numerous others on June 4 at Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) IPL 2025 victory celebrations near M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar Plans New Stadium:

Throughout the state, the incident caused a great deal of outrage, and officials were heavily criticised for their poor crowd control. Due to space limitations, the city's central Chinnaswamy Stadium has long been strained during important cricket matches and other events. Over three lakh spectators reportedly congregated around the stadium during the RCB celebrations, considerably exceeding both official projections and the venue's capacity despite the stadium's 35,000 capacity. A chaotic and fatal crush resulted from the stampede, which was exacerbated by little police presence and little time for preparation.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah later admitted that the city centre needed to be decongested. Plans to move the cricket stadium to a more accessible and uncrowded area have been alluded to by him. He added, “Kempegowda envisioned a world-class Bengaluru. With his vision as our inspiration, we are committed to making this city better."
