After his valiant performance in the fifth and final Test match against England, India's Mohammed Siraj was named the ICC Player of the Month for August on Monday. For the monthly prize, the pacer defeated rivals Matt Henry of New Zealand and Jayden Seales, a fast bowler from the West Indies. Siraj won the prize ahead of other fast bowlers, Jayden Seals of the West Indies and Matt Henry of New Zealand, thanks to his incredible performance on the last day of the Test series against England, which enabled them to win the Oval Test match by six runs.
India won the Oval Test match by six runs thanks to Siraj's outstanding game-winning performance on the last day of the Test series against England, the only match he played in August. Say hello 👋 to the ICC Men's Player of the Month for August 2025! 🔝
Congratulations, Mohammed Siraj 👏👏@mdsirajofficialpic.twitter.com/Iach0IDK3w
Mohammed Siraj said, "It is a special honour to be named ICC Player of the Month. The Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy was a memorable series, and it was one of the most intense contests I have been part of. I am proud that I could contribute with some important spells, especially in the decisive moments. Bowling against a top batting line-up in their home conditions was challenging, but it also brought out the best in me."
He added, "This award belongs as much to my teammates and the support staff as it does to me, because their constant encouragement and belief kept me going. I will continue to work hard and give my best every time I wear the India jersey."
The ICC Women's Player of the Month award went to Ireland's Orla Prendergast, who defeated the Netherlands' Iris Zwilling and Pakistan's wicketkeeper-batter Muneeba Ali. In a home Twenty20 International series, Prendergast helped the team defeat Pakistan 2-1 and was named Player of the Series. In that series, she amassed 144 runs and claimed four wickets. She continued to play well in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier, ending with seven wickets and 244 runs in August.
