Joe Root, an English batsman, is now the third-highest run scorer in Test cricket history, surpassing both Rahul Dravid and Jacques Kallis. Entering the innings with 13,259 Test runs, Root needed just 30 runs to pass Kallis (13,289) and Dravid (13,288), making him England's best run scorer in both Test and international cricket altogether.
In the current series against India, Root has been in outstanding form, amassing over 250 runs thus far, including a century and a half. He also became the first batter in history to reach 1,000 Test runs at Old Trafford during his most recent knock. By accomplishing this, Root becomes the third hitter from England to score 1,000 or more Test runs at two distinct locations, placing him in an elite company. He now joins Alastair Cook and Graham Gooch, who both reached the 2,166-run mark at Lord's and The Oval, in having done so.

In England's first innings, Root overtook Rahul Dravid and Kallis between the 57th and 58th overs, solidifying his position as the third-highest run scorer of all time. The audience, who learned of Root's accomplishment through an announcement at Old Trafford, gave him a standing ovation. Root was totally focused on the task at hand and didn't display any emotions.
With constant excellence, the 34-year-old Yorkshireman, who already holds the record for most Test runs scored by England, continues to define his period. Earlier this year, Root became the fastest player in terms of matches played to reach the 13,000-run milestone, having done it in just 153 Test matches.
