The hosts took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series in the India vs. England ODI in Nagpur, which was contested at the VCA Stadium. The teams will now play the second game of the series at Cuttack after the Indian team triumphed with four wickets remaining and 68 balls remaining in the chase.
Following Thursday's first ODI at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur, England cricketers Harry Brook and Brydon Carse removed their caps before shaking hands with India skipper Rohit Sharma. Rohit led the Indian team out for the post-match handshake after India defeated England by four wickets to grab a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Harry Brook and Brydon Carse removed their caps to express their appreciation and affection for Rohit, the opposition team's most senior player and three-time ICC trophy winner, as they shook hands with him. Prior to preparing for the post-match presentation, Rohit shook hands and had a personal meeting with both English players. After the game, star batsman Virat Kohli, who was unable to play because of an injured right knee, also took the field for a traditional moment. He was also spotted shaking hands with the cricket players from England.
For the uninitiated, the captain of the Men in Blue was happy with the victory even if he didn't perform well at bat. Following his removal, Axar Patel, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer all scored vital half-centuries that carried India all the way to the finish line and easily overtook the mark. In addition to the bowlers who assisted them in keeping the English hitters within 50 overs, Rohit praised the three.
Following the game, Rohit stated that the Indian squad would want to continue checking all the boxes, much like they did against England in the first ODI, but that they have no specific goals in mind for the Champions Trophy.
With the exception of a slight glitch near the conclusion of a modest 249-run chase, when they fell from 221/3 to 235/6, India put on an almost flawless display to grab a 1-0 lead with a victory of four wickets.
