Mohammad Amir, a fast bowler for Pakistan, has disclosed why he has just decided to retire from international cricket. After taking a hiatus from international competition in December 2020, the left-arm bowler returned to play for Pakistan in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, which was played in the United States and the West Indies.
His cricketing philosophy is outdated; forget about gentle handshakes and grinning at the batter after a successful shot. Amir claims that the foundation of cricket's heyday was unadulterated, fierce, and confrontational rivalry. He even alluded to how tough the game used to be and mentioned the legendary Sir Vivian Richards.
Mohammad Amir breaks silence:
On Geo News, Amir said, "After the T20 World Cup ended, no one even talked to me, no one told me about any plans. A wise man needs no further explanation. If I’m not in the plan, then I have to think about myself. Now I’ve made up my mind — thank you very much for international cricket. When I came to play in the World Cup, I left my county contract. Whatever I played in the World Cup, I ended up spending more money myself. My trainer travelled with me, and I bore all those expenses personally. Anyway, that’s a separate matter."

During Pakistan's 2010 tour of England, the bowler was embroiled in a spot-fixing scandal earlier in his career. His bright career was severely hampered when the International Cricket Council (ICC) banned him from cricket for five years. The Quetta Gladiators have only won one of their three PSL 2025 games thus far. Amir feels that the Quetta Gladiators are reuniting at the ideal moment.
Although the batting has been problematic up front, the bowling team is playing well, and the middle order has more muscle now that Mark Chapman has joined. On Friday, April 25, at Lahore, they will play Match 15 against Karachi Kings.
