The Proteas are poised to visit Pakistan in the rainbow nation for an all-format trip which opens with a three-match men's T20I series on December 10, 2024, at the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Cricket Ground, Durban. In their 22 matches in men's Twenty20 Internationals, South Africa has won 10 of their matches while Pakistan has won 12. In April 2021, South Africa last hosted Pakistan for a four-match T20I series, which Pakistan won 3-1. They also played each other at the 2022 T20 World Cup, with Pakistan winning by 33 runs in a group-stage encounter.

The final Test match against Sri Lanka ends just one day before the short format series against Pakistan, meaning that a number of all-format players, including regular T20I skipper Aiden Markram, will miss the T20I series. Heinrich Klaasen, a wicketkeeper-batter, has been selected captain of the T20I team, which also includes David Miller, Anrich Nortje, and Rassie van der Dussen. The hosts last played in the shortest format against India last month.
