Legendary Australian batter Steven Smith has been announced as a direct signing by the newest team, Sialkot Stallionz, in a significant announcement ahead of the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL). This move will increase the team's star power ahead of its March 26 debut.
The signing was made public on the team's official social media accounts. This is the franchise's first and largest direct signing. Under the new regulation that permits each team to make one direct overseas signing, the Stallionz signed the right-handed hitter. The Big Bash League (BBL), The Hundred, Indian Premier League (IPL), Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), and Caribbean Premier League (CPL) are just a few of the elite leagues in which Smith has participated.

Despite being one of the most successful batters of his generation, Smith, 34, has never played in the PSL before; this is his first appearance. The Australian cricket player is one of the biggest additions in Pakistan Super League history, the team announced on social media.
Along with Hyderabad, the Sialkot Stallionz are one of two new teams that have joined the PSL this season, bringing the total number of teams to eight. The Stallionz became the most expensive franchise in PSL history when OZ Developers paid a record-breaking PKR 1.85 billion (about USD 6.55 million) to acquire them.
The Stallionz have maintained an elite reputation since the start. But a hefty price only counts if it is accompanied by great ambition, and signing Steve Smith demonstrates just that. Smith has participated in 272 T20 matches overall. With five hundreds and thirty half-centuries, he has amassed 6,242 runs at an average of 32.68 and a strike rate of 131.38. Smith's signing was made feasible under PSL 11 regulations, which permit teams to directly sign one international player who did not participate in PSL 10.
