Recent events indicate that Sanju Samson will be sidelined for at least five to six weeks of cricket play after suffering a hit to his right index finger during the fifth Twenty20 International of the India-England series at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. Two deliveries later, Samson was hit flush on his right glove by a rearing Jofra Archer delivery after smashing the game's opening delivery for a maximum.

During Sunday's fifth T20 International match against England in Mumbai, the star batsman-wicketkeeper was hit by a scorching delivery from Jofra Archer, breaking his index finger. He will miss the forthcoming Ranji Trophy 2025 quarterfinals due to the injury, which will keep him out of action for more than a month.

Sanju Samson injury mishap:

India TV quotes a BCCI source saying, "Samson has fractured his right index finger. It will take him five to six weeks before he can resume proper nets. So, there is no chance of him playing the Ranji Trophy quarter-final for Kerala (vs Jammu & Kashmir) in Pune from February 8-12. In all likelihood, his comeback will happen in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals."

After recuperating at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Samson has returned to his hometown of Thiruvananthapuram and will only start training again. Before he can return to competition, he must receive medical clearance from the NCA. Even though Samson was fired after four deliveries following the event, the same report also claimed that the swelling grew over time. Dhruv Jurel took over the wicket-keeping responsibilities after the wicketkeeper-batter failed to appear in the second innings.

Notably, Samson returned to the game using the same dismissal technique as in the first four games of the series: he was hurried up by the short ball and then swung it directly into the deep square leg fence's grasp. Samson only managed to score 51 runs in five innings during his disappointing batting series. When he leads the Royals in the 2025 Indian Premier League, he will be eager to start over. Samson won't miss any international matches because India won't play a Twenty20 International for at least six months.
