Another shocking revelation surfaced as the SA20 in South Africa came to an end: Proteas and Sunrisers Eastern Cape batsman David Bedingham apparently double-booked two of the most important events of his life for the same weekend.
The right-handed batter was reportedly planning to marry his fiancée, Jenna van Niekerk, this weekend. However, he discovered that he had unintentionally put himself in a difficult situation because the SA20 2025 was slated for Saturday, February 8. In order to participate in the summit clash, Bedingham chose to move the wedding to Sunday.
According to South African cricket reporter Firdose Moonda, Bedingham had planned to marry his fiancée Jenna van Niekerk this weekend, but he realized he had put himself in a difficult situation after he assisted his team in reaching the SA20 final for the third time in a row.
David Bedingham's SA20 2025 Blow:
According to South African cricket reporter Firdose Moonda, Bedingham was fortunate to have an alternative. He said, “The wedding was booked and planned, but then SEC made the final, so now he has moved the wedding to tomorrow."
The Sunrisers had a fantastic chance to win three straight SA20 championships. They defeated the Joburg Super Kings in the Eliminator and the Paarl Royals in the Qualifier 2, and at the end of the league phase, they were ranked third on the points table.
MI Cape Town easily defeated Sunrisers in the finals to win the tournament's third edition, preventing them from winning three straight titles. During a fierce pursuit, MICT's all-star roster won the title after Bedingham was removed early by national teammate Kagiso Rabada and none of the SEC hitters could click.
Sunrisers lost by 76 runs after being bowled out for just 105 in 18.4 overs. With a 30 off 25 balls, Tom Abell was the losing team's top scorer. Bedingham, meanwhile, only scored five runs off of eight balls. Trent Boult received Player of the Match after finishing with incredible bowling stats of 2/9 in four overs, despite Kagiso Rabada scoring a four-for.
Marco Jansen, meanwhile, finished as the top wicket-taker and was named Player of the Tournament. At an average of 18.42, he took 19 wickets in 13 games.
