Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav consoled Sri Lanka’s Dunith Wellalage after their Asia Cup Super 4 clash on Friday, September 27, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, showing a moment of compassion that went beyond the match. Wellalage, 22, had recently lost his father, Suranga Wellalage, to a heart attack. Despite his grief, he returned to join the Sri Lankan squad for the Super 4 stage, showing great courage and determination.

On social media, India skipper Suryakumar Yadav is winning people over with his sweet gesture toward Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage. Suryakumar approached Wellalage on the field before the Asia Cup 2025 final Super Four match and put a consoling hand on Wellalage's shoulder. The 35-year-old hugged him and offered encouraging words. Due to the way true sportsmanship was demonstrated, Suryakumar's specific gesture of empathy has gone viral among cricket fans.

Yadav's gesture served as a poignant reminder to Wellalage that empathy and understanding may provide solace in times of sorrow. India narrowly defeated Sri Lanka to extend their winning streak in the 2025 Asia Cup. India scored 202 for five when they batted first. With a scorching 61 off 31 balls—his third consecutive half-century—Abhishek Sharma took the lead. While Sanju Samson contributed 39 runs, Tilak Varma stayed undefeated at 49.

Arshdeep bowled brilliantly in the one-over final, capturing two wickets in five balls and conceding just two runs. Then, on the opening ball of their chase, Suryakumar Yadav gave India the victory by hitting Wanindu Hasaranga for three runs through the covers.

India's winning streak now stands at six games, and they remain undefeated in the competition. This will be the first time the two rivals have faced each other in an Asia Cup final. They will now play Pakistan. The match will take place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, 28 September 2025.
