Following a meeting between Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday, Pakistan has postponed making a definitive decision about its participation in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Following his meeting with the PM of Pakistan, Naqvi stated that the issue is still being discussed, that all possibilities are being considered, and that a final decision is anticipated by Friday or Monday of next week.
Following Bangladesh's refusal to go to India due to security concerns, the International Cricket Council (ICC) removed Bangladesh from the 20-team competition, raising doubts over Pakistan's participation. Scotland later took Bangladesh's spot, a decision that apparently infuriated the PCB and the Pakistani government.

Taking it to his official X account, Naqvi revealed, "Had a productive meeting with the Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. Briefed him on the ICC matter, and he directed that we resolve it while keeping all options on the table. It was agreed that the final decision will be taken either on Friday or next Monday."
Following Bangladesh's exclusion from the 20-team competition by the International Cricket Council (ICC) due to their refusal to go to India due to security concerns, Pakistan's participation in the tournament has been clouded by uncertainty. Scotland later took Bangladesh's position, a decision that is said to have caused unhappiness in both the Pakistan government and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Salman Ali Agha led Pakistan's 15-man selection for the T20 World Cup on Sunday, despite the continuous uncertainty. The PCB chairman emphasised, nevertheless, that the team announcement should not be seen as confirmation of participation. He emphasised that events involving India in particular require official permission.
Naqvi has constantly insisted that before making any decisions, the PCB is awaiting the final stance of the Pakistani government. The ICC has set January 30 as the deadline for all participating nations to submit their final squads for the T20 World Cup, which will take place in Sri Lanka and India beginning on February 7.
