On Thursday, January 15, the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai hosted the eighth game of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 between the Mumbai Indians Women and the UP Warriorz Women. After winning the toss, Up Warriorz chose to bowl first. G Kamalini and Amanjot Kaur scored 43 runs in eight overs to give Mumbai a slow start. But they both left shortly after one another. Despite looking well, Harmanpreet Kaur was dismissed for an 11-ball 16.
After a very mediocre first half of the innings, Nat-Sciver Brunt (65 off 43 balls) batted with the physical force she is known for to raise the Mumbai Indians to 161 for five. Despite batting well, Harleen Deol (64 not out off 39), who was retired out on Wednesday, showed a point by perfectly anchoring UPW's run chase. While the Mumbai Indians lost their second game in four, UPW had their first victory of the season in four games.

Kiran Navgire and Meg Lanning scored 42 runs during the powerplay in response. But they were dismissed in the same over by Nat Sciver-Brunt. At number four, Harleen Deol went out to bat and had a brilliant innings. In the 73-run stand with Phoebe Litchfield, she was the aggressor. Chloe Tryon joined Deol and hit an undefeated 27 off 11 balls after the Australian batsman left for a 22-ball 25.
But Deol's 39-ball 64 was the star of the show. The Warriorz raced to the goal in 18.1 overs and upset the reigning champions by seven wickets. In the most recent game, the right-handed batter was retired, a decision that some fans took issue with. She was hitting boundaries at will and batting at a completely different level. She hit 12 fours in her defeated knock of 64 off 39 balls.
