After being acquired by the Delhi Capitals for INR 1.20 crore in the 2018 IPL, Prithvi Shaw, who gained notoriety at the young age of 18, became a millionaire overnight. He received an INR 8 crore raise over his six years with the team before his form suffered from fitness problems and the strain to live up to the hype.
In December 2020, star Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw made his Test debut. The athlete hung around with players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli during his tenure with the Indian team before being dropped. During a moment in the locker room, the right-handed batter revealed how the previous captain of the national team had played a practical joke on him.
The young Prithvi Shaw was the most recent victim of the dressing room custom, which was continued when Kohli assumed the role of senior member of the squad. Shaw explained how, without cause, the renowned Indian batsman forced him to run all the way to the ground.
Prithvi Shaw gets candid:
On a YouTube channel, Shaw revealed, “It was a game against England and I was in the dressing room. I was with Ash Bhai and Mohammed Shami. And someone got out. I was not playing that match. We don’t hear the ground noise inside the dressing room. We were around the washroom, and then Virat Bhai came into the washroom. Virat Bhai stared at me and asked What am I doing here? He asked, do I know that a wicket has fallen? And asked me to go check for the wicket. Now we don't know that lunch break was on because 10 minutes ago we were standing there, so this man made me run all the way to the ground, now I saw everyone, no one on the field, and then Virat Bhai said, you don’t know the lunch is on"
The on-field umpire determined that Shaw was caught behind after he seemed to have nicked a low delivery that was rolling down the leg side. Shaw had to return to record another failure since the umpire's call stood even though the replays were not decisive.
