There were several homecomings at the Indian Premier League mega-auction in 2025. As was the case with Gautam Gambhir, Sanju Samson, and Hardik Pandya in the past, as well as with many others in the mega-auction, it is common for players to return to their previous teams in a 10-team competition.
When a player with a lengthy history with their favourite team is released, fans and loyalists are frequently split. The highlight of the IPL 2025 auction, meanwhile, was Ravichandran Ashwin's homecoming to the Chennai Super Kings, which saw some legendary players return to the teams they previously called home. Check out the top three players who will be wearing the jerseys of their previous teams.
IPL 2025 Homecomings:
3. Glenn Maxwell (PUNJAB KINGS):
After playing for the Punjab Kings for the last time in the 2020 season, the daring Australian batsman is back. Maxwell's four consecutive seasons with Punjab from 2014 to 2017 are his IPL claim to fame. In 2014, he scored 552 runs at an incredible strike rate of 187.75, marking a breakthrough season. After playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru for the last four seasons, he returns to his former squad. At the IPL 2025 auction, the Punjab Kings selected him for Rs. 4.20 crore.
2. Trent Boult (MUMBAI INDIANS):
One of the main reasons Mumbai wanted to sign him in the mega-auction was because of his amazing play with the new ball. Notably, the bidding battle began between the Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan. Following the previous player's departure, Mumbai entered the race and ultimately paid INR 12.50 crore to sign him. Boult can cause a lot of trouble in the next IPL 2025 with his partners, Jasprit Bumrah and Deepak Chahar. With the new ball, Bout and Chahar can prove to be lethal, and Bumrah can handle the death afterwards.
1. Ravichandran Ashwin (CHENNAI SUPER KINGS):
At the IPL 2025 auction, the Chennai Super Kings paid Rs. 9.75 crore for the Indian off-spinner. Under MS Dhoni's leadership, Ashwin made his debut with CSK in 2009. Despite playing in just two games during his first season, Ashwin played for the Super Kings until 2015 and was a part of two championship seasons in 2010 and 2011. He later played for the Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings before rejoining CSK after spending the previous three seasons with the Rajasthan Royals.
