Virat Kohli was left frustrated at himself on Day 2 of the Sydney Test on Saturday, January 4, after getting out to another delivery outside off stump. Virat Kohli's trouble with the outside off-stump line has persisted, as the batter has fallen victim to the same delivery twice in the series.
The former India captain was expected to have a return innings, but his run drought continued in the final Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in 2024-25. Scott Boland removed Kohli yet again, this time when he was caught fishing outside off and edged it straight to slips as the pacer continued to rattle the Indian batting order.

Scott Boland dismissed him for attempting to deliver off the stump line. The same bowler threw a similar line in the first innings, and the right-handed hitter had already fallen for the tactic. The top batter took over as acting captain and masterminded Australia's collapse in Sydney, guiding the hosts from 162 for 6 to 181 all out. India opened up a four-run lead before tea. Yashasvi Jaiswal gave the visitors a good start in the second innings. However, Boland stepped in and dismissed both openers, forcing Kohli to join Shubman Gill in the middle.
Kohli's series would come to an end in disastrous fashion, as he had been dismissed on seven out of eight occasions for deliveries outside the off-stump. In the first innings, Kohli was caught in slips by Beau Webster off Boland's bowling for 17 off 69 balls. The top Indian batsman let out an angry shout and punched his leg in pain.
Kohli began the Australia trip on a high note, scoring his 81st ton in the second innings of the Perth Test. Since then, his struggle with the outside world has been obvious. Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar believes the older batter's strength has become his greatest weakness following his dismissal in the first innings of the Sydney Test.
