Regarding the captaincy change for the next IPL season, the Gujarat Titans, the 2022 IPL champions, gave a mysterious hint. Rashid, a match-winner and one of the top T20 players in the world contributes a wealth of experience and leadership skills. In addition to having the honour of guiding GT twice, he has captained Afghanistan in international cricket. In the 2022 season, he made his IPL captaincy debut against CSK.
In Gujarat Titans podcast Rashid Khan said, "That was a special match as it was my first match as captain in IPL, and that too during Ramadan. I woke up at 3 am for Sehri. I got a message from Ashish Nehra, saying 'Khan sahab get ready. Hardik might not play as he is not well. There was excitement and pressure. It was a dream."
In order to strengthen their team, the Titans made audacious purchases at the IPL 2025 auction. Their batting lineup gained punch with the INR 15.75 crore acquisition of Jos Buttler, while the middle order was strengthened by the addition of young players like Nishant Sindhu and Kumar Kushagra. In terms of bowling, GT acquired all-rounder Washington Sundar along with elite pacers Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada.
