After a run of poor performances in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he had previously made 2, 0, and 17 against India, middle-order batsman Steve Smith of Australia has finally regained his form. Smith scored a century with a strong knock in the third Test at the Gabba. However, India ultimately ended his alliance with Travis Head, who had contributed an incredible 241 runs.
Before Jasprit Bumrah defeated him in the 83rd over of the match, Smith appeared to be in good control. Smith might have been inspired to take a drive by the Indian pacer's fuller bowling and outside-off pitch, but he hesitated and drove with strong hands, giving Rohit Sharma a thick edge. Smith hoisted his bat and then walked back to the dressing room, receiving a standing ovation from the Gabba crowd.

As a fitting homage to his innings, the Gabba crowd gave him a standing ovation. Australia lost their fourth wicket of the innings, while Bumrah claimed his third. Conversely, Travis Head scored 150 runs in the first inning. The Australia international looked perfect in the middle, as Indian bowlers once again had a difficult time bowling to the player. In addition to his aggressive batting, Indian bowlers allowed Head plenty of space to dominate in the middle.
Rain had a major effect on the first day of the third Test. India decided to bowl first, however they only played for fewer than 15 overs because of a strong downpour. Australia finished with a score of 28/0. Light drizzle in the sixth over caused a temporary halt to play, and players were unable to return to the field later in the day owing to heavy showers.
Bumrah would want stronger middle-field support from the other pacers, particularly Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep. Australia is in command of the match, and India will face extreme pressure in the following innings if they are unable to clear the tail quickly.
