In their campaign opener for the World Championship of Legends (WCL 2025) match, the Indian champions lost badly to the South African champions by 88 runs (using the DLS method). To propel his team to victory, South Africa's captain, AB de Villiers, turned back time by hammering a 30-ball 63 with the bat and making an incredible catch in the outfield.
South Africa set up a formidable total of 208/6 in 20 overs when called to bat by Yuvraj Singh, the captain of the India Champions. But Yuvraj, who had a niggle while fielding, refused to bat. Before rain stopped play, India's batting order, which was led by Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, and Yusuf Pathan, collapsed, managing just 111/9. Consequently, SAC has now won the tournament twice in a row.

Speaking of his brilliant fielding performance, it occurred in the opening ball of the second innings' eighth over. Imran Tahir was thrown to the right of long-on by Yusuf Pathan. The Indian all-rounder appeared to have found a gap and struck a flat six. To his right, though, de Villiers covered a lot of territory before sliding in to catch the ball. He decided to hurl the ball in the air so that Sarel Erwee could complete the catch by diving forward after rushing towards him from deep mid-wicket, but he realised that the momentum would carry him over the ropes.
Earlier in the game, de Villiers blasted three fours and four sixes while smashing the Indian bowlers to all sides of the park on his way to an undefeated 63 off 30 balls. During his innings, South Africa amassed an incredible 208/6. India responded by scoring 111/9 in 18.2 overs before the match was halted because of floodlight problems.
