On November 9, the second Twenty20 International between the West Indies and England was played at Barbados' Kensington Oval. Despite England's eight-wicket victory, the visitors' temporary problems were brought on by Reece Topley's injury sustained while bowling. Prior to delivering the ball, Topley hurt his right knee while bowling the third over of his delivery.

In violation of Article 2.2, which deals with “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during an international match," Topley was sanctioned. Topley was clearly irritated as he walked up the pavilion staircase, grabbed a chair, and violently slammed it against the handrail during the England fielding incident. Topley has been given one demerit point, his first in a 24-month span, in addition to the monetary punishment.

After that, the 30-year-old walked off the field and never came back to play. He was penalized 15% of the match fee for picking up a chair and smashing it against the stair railing, but the incident did not keep him off the field. For those who are unaware, he performed a similar stunt in the 2023 ODI World Cup match against India, kicking a chair out of his way. The ICC did not charge him for his actions during the World Cup.

Topley agreed to the accusations made by match officials, including third umpire Gregory Brathwaite, fourth umpire Deighton Butler, and on-field umpires Leslie Reifer and Zahid Bassarath. The sentence was suggested by Richie Richardson of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Referees, and as Topley accepted the ruling, no formal hearing was required.

Speaking about the match, after batting first, the West Indies gave England a target of 183. Philip Salt was named Player of the Match as England chased the mark in just 16.5 overs thanks to his undefeated 103 from 54 balls.
