Chennai Super Kings has the young Mumbai batter Ayush Mhatre on their radar ahead of the mega IPL 2025 auctions. Before the auction, CSK is said to have invited Ayush Mhatre, the 17-year-old opener from Mumbai, for a selection trial. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the great captain of India and CSK, is said to have been impressed by Mhatre. If Mhatre shows up for the trial, CSK will have eight days to assess him before the fifth round of the Ranji Trophy concludes on November 16.
The opportunity for uncapped local cricket players to enter the lucrative league has been created by the franchises' significant expenditures to keep the main players of their individual teams. Ayush Mhatre, a budding star from Mumbai, is one such talent that has attracted the notice of the famous MS Dhoni.
Ayush Mhatre to play in IPL 2025?
The Times of India said that Mhatre attracted the attention of MS Dhoni in addition to CSK's talent scouts. Therefore, after the fifth round of the Ranji Trophy 2024 season ended on November 16 and before the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy began, Mhatre received an invitation from CSK to try out. The two are separated by six days. This would give CSK enough time to assess Mhatre before the November 24 and 25 mega auction.

For those who are unaware, the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy will take precedence over the Ranji Trophy 2024–25. The SMAT will begin on November 23 and the Ranji Trophy will cease on November 16. Rumour has it that Mhatre may be included among the 28-member Mumbai probables for the SMAT. The young batter has since been called by CSK to show up for tryouts during the six days between the events.
Additionally, it has been stated that Mhatre has been granted permission to appear for tryouts with CSK during the six-day period by an email written by CSK's MD and CEO, Kasi Viswanath, to Mumbai Cricket Association Secretary, Abhay Hadap.
