The producers of Bhool Chuk Maaf, which starred Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, declared on the morning of May 8 that the film would be released directly over-the-top (OTT) due to the Pahalgam incident, Operation Sindoor, and the events that followed. According to a Bollywood Hungama report, the Bombay High Court has blocked the film's OTT release till the matter is resolved after PVR Inox chose to sue the production company for damages.

After PVR Inox petitioned Maddock Films to forego the film's May 16 theatre release in favour of an Amazon Prime Video premiere, the order was issued. The announcement was made just one day before the movie's May 9 initial release date. In a statement, the production house said, "In light of recent events and the heightened security drills across the nation, we at Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios have decided to bring our family entertainer, Bhool Chuk Maaf, directly to your homes on May 16--only on Prime Video, worldwide."

Additionally, the theatre chain said that this was a blatant violation of the contract they had with the production company on May 6, 2025. They added that 31 PVR theatres in Delhi had already started promoting the movie weeks beforehand. However, the production firm contended that they had the right to select the release platform and that the 8-week holdback only applied if the movie was shown in theatres.

However, the court firmly held that a direct-to-OTT strategy, although advantageous in the present, was not a legitimate reason to terminate the agreement. It noted that a last-minute cancellation would hurt the multiplex operator's finances and reputation in addition to eroding customer trust.
