YRF Chooses Big Screen for Alia Bhatt's Alpha Movie, Turns Down ₹215 Crore OTT Offer from Netflix

The latest instalment in Yash Raj Films' (YRF) spy world, Alpha, is currently under production. Alia Bhatt plays the lead in the film, which is directed by Shiv Rawail. There has been a lot of talk in recent weeks that the project may launch straight on a streaming service rather than in theatres. According to some reports, Netflix even made a sizable offer for the digital rights, reportedly for approximately Rs 215 crore.

The publication was informed by a source that YRF and Netflix India had reached an agreement worth ₹215 crore for the direct digital release of Alpha. A spokesperson revealed, “[That] Alpha [is] going to stream directly [is a rumour that] aims at putting a heroine-fronted film in an unflattering light. Yash Raj Films will never put films from its theatrical slate directly to streaming. We are a studio that takes immense pride in making cinematic experiences. Alpha is a tentpole movie for the company.”

The production company is trying to "mount something incredibly special" with Alpha, according to the statement. In it, Sharvari is referred to as a "brilliant young actor" and Alia as "one of the finest actors of our country." The statement added, “We are hopeful that we have made a good film in Alpha and it will entertain everyone and prove that audiences will give the same amount of love to this film as they shower upon other action movies.”

There isn't a specific release date yet. The movie's original release date of December 25, 2025, was postponed because the visual effects were not finished in time. According to reports, the release was subsequently rescheduled for April 17, 2026, to give enough time to complete the visual effects. But now it seems that Alpha might also miss this date.
