Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has opened up on his team’s innings defeat to Australia in the second and final Test of the two-match series, which is levelled 1-1 on Sunday, August 23.
Speaking in the post-match presentation ceremony, Shanto has acknowledged Australia’s dominance in this particular format over the years, adding that his team didn’t turn up well to play their best game.
“I think we all know that, how good they are and as I said in the press conference, they have been experienced for almost 50, more than 50 years. So yeah, they played, they showed their character and as Bangladesh Test team, we didn’t play our best match,” Shanto said in the post-match presentation.
“I think this is a different condition and there is a little bit more extra bounce and swing in the air. So it’s challenging for us. But as a team, if we wanted to go forward, we need to adjust this condition and I hope this experience will help going forward,” he added.
Furthermore, the Bangladesh captain also opened up on the team’s positives during the two-match Test series. In the game, Bangladesh posted 64 runs in 34 overs in the first innings after being tasked to bat first. Mitchell Starc picked up a six-wicket haul. In reply, Australia posted 210 runs in 52.3 overs. Cameron Green was the top scorer with 67 runs. Shoriful Islam racked up a seven-wicket haul.
“I think it’s a very proud moment as a team and we showed our character and we were disciplined, as you mentioned, that the first Test and we need to be consistent and I believe if we are able to get more chance, similar kind of condition here, it will help us and that’s what we want, not long, long term, like 23 years of came here and play two Test matches. It’s not easy. So if we have that able to chance to play every single year, it will help us to improve our game,” he concluded.
In the third innings, Bangladesh got all out for 95 runs in 38.3 overs as Australia secured an innings and 51-run win to level the two-match series 1-1.
