India’s 15-year-old dashing opening batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has opened up after winning his first player of the match and the series awards in international cricket as India secured a 35-run win over Zimbabwe in the third and final T20I in Harare on Sunday, July 26.
Delving into the details of the game, after India opted to bat first, Sooryavanshi racked up an 81-run knock off 49 balls with eight fours and four sixes with a strike rate of 165.31 as the visitors posted 192/5 in 20 overs.
“Yes, it’s truly a dream come true moment. Getting my first Man of the Match and Man of the Series awards, I’m very happy. My game is the same as what I play in T20 cricket. I was just trying to do that for the team. In all three matches, I tried to give the team a good start. If I got a good start, then I wanted to make the innings bigger. That was my only approach,” Sooryavanshi said after winning the player of the match and the series awards.
Moreover, he had revealed that the shots that he plays in the game are the same he practices in the net sessions. Sooryavanshi had already tasted success at the Harare Sports Club, scoring 68 in the semi-final and a 175-run knock in the final of the ICC U19 World Cup 2026 campaign.
“The shots that I play are the same ones I practise. I just try to replicate in the match whatever I do in the practice sessions,” he added.
“It felt really good. Our preparation was very good during the two or three days after we arrived in Harare. I also played the Under-19 World Cup here, so, everyone backed me – the captain, the coaches, everyone – so I’m very happy,” he concluded.
