On Sunday, July 26, India reclaimed the No.1 position in the ICC Men’s T20I Team rankings after sealing the 3-0 series win against Zimbabwe in Harare. Notably, India bagged a 35-run win over Zimbabwe in the third and final T20I of the series to seal the series.
The reigning World T20 Champions regained the top spot from England, who had dethroned the Men in Blue post a 4-0 T20I series win at home most recently in England. With this, England slid to the second rank.
Shifting our focus to the details of the third T20I, India posted an imposing total of 192/5 in 20 overs. Opening batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (81) was the top scorer with eight fours and four sixes.
In the second innings, Zimbabwe could score 157/7 in 20 overs, losing the game by 35 runs. Middle-order batter Ryan Burl was the top scorer, accumulating an unbeaten 54-run knock. Mayank Yadav racked up a three-wicket haul.
After India’s 3-0 series win, Indian skipper Shreyas Iyer was elated to drive his side to his maiden series win as a captain. He has heaped praise for showing fearless approach across all facets of the game.
“As we saw how fearless they are, they are a young bunch of players who have been showing tremendous energy on the field and the intent, especially when you play back-to-back games. To have such kind of energy is what I require as a captain and as a team, and they could deliver today as well, back-to-back games. So, yeah, a special feeling for me to win the series over here in Zimbabwe. Clinical, 3-0. So it’s going to be a special moment,” Iyer said after the series win.
