India’s T20I squad announced for Afghanistan series

India’s T20I squad announced for Afghanistan series

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s Men’s Selection Committee, on Tuesday, September 1, unveiled India’s squad for the forthcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan.

India will play three games on September 13, 15, and 17 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. While all three games are being played in Delhi, Afghanistan will be the official hosts for the series.

Interestingly, Rinku Singh, Prabhsimran Singh, Harsh Dubey, Suryansh Shedge, Ashok Sharma, Prince Yadav, Mayank Yadav and Yash Thakur have been left out of the squad that toured Zimbabwe. Meanwhile, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel return to the squad after being rested.

Jasprit Bumrah, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana and Washington Sundar have all been named in the 15-man squad, but are subject to getting fitness clearance from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence.

It’s worth noting that Bumrah injured his left knee during the third and final ODI against England. Rana and Sundar had hamstring injuries during the England tour, with Reddy injuring his quadriceps in June 2026 during the Afghanistan ODI series. Varun Chakravarthy, who injured his hamstring during the England T20I tour, has also featured in the 15-man squad.

Shreyas Iyer continues as captain following his appointment earlier this summer, with Tilak Varma serving as his vice-captain.

India’s squad for Afghanistan T20Is: Shreyas Iyer (c), Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Sanju Samson (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Tilak Varma (vc), Shivam Dube, Nitish Kumar Reddy*, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar*, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Jasprit Bumrah*, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana*
