Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) finished at number six on the IPL 2026 points table with 9 wins from 14 games and made it into Qualifier 2 of the tournament, losing to Gujarat Titans. SRH did well despite Ishan Kishan leading them early on in the tournament, while Pat Cummins took over after recovering from a back injury.
There are reports that Pat Cummins will not be playing in the IPL 2027, keeping himself fit for the ICC World Cup and the Ashes 2027. There are chances that Ishan Kishan might be named captain of the franchise next year, and there are a few players who SRH might need to let go to get more players suited to their vision and style of play. Today, we see the 3 players who SRH could release before the IPL 2027 auction.
Here are the 3 players SRH could release before the IPL 2027 mini-auction:
3. Dilshan Madushanka
Ace Sri Lankan left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka was picked by SRH as a backup pacer but only got to play one game. The youngster has a good record for Sri Lanka, taking 56 ODI and 20 T20I wickets, but SRH found a couple of young Indian pacers in Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain, who formed a good bowling attack with Pat Cummins and Eshan Malinga. This leaves no space for Madushanka, and SRH might let him go to make space.
2. Kamindu Mendis
Kamindu Mendis failed to get a game in IPL 2026 for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Sunrisers Hyderabad trusted their pace attack more than their spinners, and hence Kamindu Mendis missed out on action. Salil Arora and Aniket Verma took on the finishers’ role, and Mendis opted to leave the SRH setup early for Sri Lanka duty. While he is a talented cricketer with the unique ability to bowl spin with both hands, his talent might be suitable for a team that prefers spinners.
1. Jaydev Unadkat
Jaydev Unadkat was brought by SRH to have some experience in their pace bowling lineup. He played four games and picked four wickets at an economy of 8.94. Unadkat failed to restrict runs in death overs despite having a good yorker in his kit. Now that SRH have traded in T Natarajan for that role, expect Unadkat to be released before IPL 2027. The left-arm pacer is experienced, but lack of speed proves to be his downfall.
