Cricket fans are excited as the Indian Premier League (IPL) is expected to hold another massive auction in Saudi Arabia during the final week of November. While fans wait to watch how their favourite teams put together their squads, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing to make the mega-auction a spectacular event.
The Indian Premier League's teams are preparing for the competition's 17th iteration. Before IPL 2025, a massive auction is planned, which could alter several team compositions and equations. A few players may be added to this scene, while some seasoned players may no longer be assigned to teams. Here, we have analysed and presented the list of players who are likely to go unsold in the upcoming auctions.
Cricketer's Fate in IPL 2025 Mega Auctions:
3. Kane Williamson:
Kane Williamson is one of the most well-known players who might not sell in this year's IPL auction. The top hitter from New Zealand only appeared in two IPL 2024 games for the Gujarat Titans. He has played in 79 IPL matches and amassed 2,128 runs at an average of 35.47 and a strike rate of 125.62.
In an attempt to extend his international career, Williamson declined a central contract with the BlackCaps and gave up the captaincy of New Zealand's white-ball sides. The veteran missed the entire Test series between India and New Zealand lately due to injury issues. Due to his physical problems and lack of playing time in both international cricket and the top T20 competitions, teams may be hesitant to sign the former Orange Cap champion.
2. Shikhar Dhawan:
In the Indian Premier League, the left-handed opening batsman is regarded as a legend. Shikhar Dhawan has, however, become less relevant in the league over the past several years. Due to his injury-related absences from both editions, the PBKS management may consider Dhawan for the next edition. Shikhar's declining strike rate has also been one of his main issues. Teams may overlook Dhawan in the mega-auction leading up to the 2025 Indian Premier League since they are searching for powerful hitters at the top.
1. Ajinkya Rahane:
At this year's IPL mega-auction, Ajinkya Rahane might be the most well-known Indian player to go unsold. Before the 2023 IPL, the Mumbai batter paid INR 50 lakhs to join CSK. His debut season in the Yellow shirt was fantastic; he helped the team captained by MS Dhoni win their sixth IPL championship by smashing 326 runs with a strike rate of 172.49.
Before the most recent WTC final, he performed well enough to be called up to the national squad. Rahane, however, fell short of expectations in the majority of the IPL 2024 games. Considering his recent play, Rahane may be overlooked in the IPL 2025 mega-auction.
