For personal reasons, Rohit Sharma cast doubt on his ability to play in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Perth later this month. After India's 0-3 series loss to New Zealand, Rohit stated that he had his "fingers crossed" that he would play in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Beginning in Perth on November 22, the Indian squad will begin a challenging five-match Test series in Australia. "Not sure whether I will be going, fingers crossed," Rohit remarked following India's defeat over New Zealand by 25 runs in the third Test.
The Indian team's 3-0 loss against New Zealand has altered a number of things. Their seemingly assured spot in the World Test Championship final is now in doubt. Their hitters have not performed well against pace and have had trouble against spin. In addition, Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir are under fire.
Rohit Sharma gets candid:
TOI quotes Rohit Sharma saying, "We do talk a lot about the game but sitting with every individual and telling them what needs to be done or how they need to get their mindset right is going to be challenging. They come with a certain mindset, and certain thinking about their own games. It has given them success in the past. But we all understand Australia is going to be a different ball game.”
Regarding his batting difficulties during the series, Rohit stated that he is just as upset with his performances as everyone else and that he was unable to fully implement his ideas. He did, however, heap kudos on young players Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill for demonstrating how to bat on challenging, spin-friendly surfaces.
He concluded by saying, "You have got to be ahead and be proactive, we have playing on such pitches in the last 3-4 years, we know how to play (and play well). But this series did not come off and that is going to hurt. Also, I was not at my best with both bat and as a captain, that is something that will rankle me. But, we did not perform well collectively and that is the reason for these losses."
