Digvesh Rathi, a spinner for the Lucknow Super Giants, has been suspended for one match by the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council for repeatedly violating the league's code of conduct. Rathi's excessive celebrations after taking wickets in LSG's matches had already resulted in two IPL penalties. Rathi and batter Abhishek Sharma got into a furious argument during Monday's match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, which even led to the umpires and other players stepping in to break up the fight.

After Rathi pulled out the notepad celebration and put a halt to Abhishek's blazing knock, the incident occurred. Before the umpires and the other players intervened, the SRH opener was furious and charged at the bowler, starting a furious altercation. Digvesh was found guilty for the third time this season of violating the IPL Code of Conduct by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The spinner was therefore suspended from LSG's upcoming match against the Gujarat Titans and fined 50% of the match money.

Digvesh Rathi in trouble?

An IPL statement regarding the issue stated, "This was his third Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 this season and hence, he has accumulated Two Demerit Points, in addition to Three Demerit Points he had accumulated earlier - One Demerit Point against Punjab Kings on April 01, 2025 and Two Demerit Points against Mumbai Indians on April 04, 2025. As he now has Five Demerit Points this season, which result in a one-game suspension, Digvesh will now be suspended for LSG's next game - against Gujarat Titans on May 22, 2025, in Ahmedabad."

Rathi was fined 50% of his match earnings by the BCCI after being booked for violating the IPL Code of Conduct. He received five demerit points for this season's third Level 1 offence under Article 2.5. For his notebook celebration, he had previously accrued one demerit point against the Punjab Kings on April 1, 2025, and two demerit points against the Mumbai Indians on April 4, 2025. Although the BCCI had allegedly chosen to be forgiving of such festivities, they were compelled to intervene after Rathi not only repeated the deed but also gave Abhishek an angry farewell, which set off the raging one-field brawl.
