Lucknow Super Giants bags Rishabh Pant in record price of INR 27 crore making him the most expensive player in the IPL 2025 auctions list happening today.

In just a few minutes, Rishabh Pant overtook Shreyas Iyer as the most expensive player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. On Sunday, November 24, the Lucknow Super Giants paid an incredible ₹27 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Early on in the event, the Indian Premier League's (IPL) 2025 mega auction has already shattered previous records. Shreyas Iyer became the most expensive purchase in IPL auction history after he was signed by Punjab Kings for INR 26.75 crore at the Jeddah auction. 

The Delhi Capitals utilized their RTM card for Pant after LSG locked in the final bid at INR 20.75 crore. But when LSG broke the previous record of INR 27 crore, the Capitals pulled out, making Pant the most costly purchase in IPL auction history. It's noteworthy that Pant has participated in 111 IPL games thus far and amassed 3,284 runs.

Other great players, like Arshdeep Singh, who was first in line at today's auction, were acquired by PBKS for the IPL 2025 after Punjab Kings chose to use RTM for him and Sunrisers Hyderabad placed a bid of ₹18 crore, to which the Kings agreed. The Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, and Delhi Capitals all made bids for the T20 World Cup hero. 

Now that Pant has been signed by Lucknow, the standout player may be made captain of the team before the 2025 Indian Premier League. Regular captain KL Rahul, who had been captaining the team since the IPL 2022, was let go by Lucknow prior to the auction. 

The KL Rahul-led team failed to qualify for the IPL playoffs in 2024 after leading Lucknow to consecutive playoff appearances in 2022 and 2023. LSG placed eighth in the standings at the end of the 2024 Indian Premier League. The team lost the other seven games and won seven. Now that Pant has been signed, the Lucknow Super Giants can appoint him as captain and look forward to a successful season and their first IPL championship.
