For the first time in IPL 2025, a support staff member of a team was disciplined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for violating the Indian Premier League Code of Conduct. After the Delhi Capitals' thrilling victory over the Rajasthan Royals in New Delhi on Wednesday, April 16, the IPL fined bowling coach Munaf Patel.
The Delhi Capitals' bowling coach, Munaf Patel, was fined 25% of his match fees and received one demerit point for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during Wednesday's game against the Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Munaf Patel accepted the Match Referee's sentence after acknowledging committing the Level 1 offence under Article 2.20, which deals with behaviour that goes against the spirit of the game.
Munaf Patel lands in trouble:
The offence's nature was not specified by the IPL, although it seems to be connected to Munaf's tense altercation with the fourth umpire during the Delhi Capitals' defence of a 188-run target. In a video that went viral on social media, Munaf and the official got into a heated dispute about using a substitute fielder to deliver a tactical message to the players.

Munaf might not be entirely upset by the harsh penalty because his team's bowlers performed admirably in the exciting draw with the Rajasthan Royals. First, the game ended in a stalemate because the Delhi Capitals prevented the Rajasthani batsmen from surpassing their first innings total. Mitchell Starc, a pacer, later produced a game-winning Super Over, allowing just 11 runs in his turn, which the hosts managed to chase down with a ball to spare.
This season, this is not Delhi's first disciplinary problem. Due to a slow over-rate, captain Axar Patel was fined Rs 12 lakh following their sixth game against the Mumbai Indians, which was their lone defeat to date. Both sides finished Wednesday's battle with equal scores of 188, forcing a Super Over. It was a stressful encounter. Delhi's Mitchell Starc was outstanding with the ball, limiting the Rajasthan Royals to just 11 runs. The chase was subsequently completed in just four deliveries by KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs, giving the hosts an exciting victory.
