There will be a new level of excitement at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Mega Auction as teams compete for the best cricket players to enhance their teams. A pivotal occasion in the IPL schedule, this auction provides the stage for team configurations for the forthcoming campaign. This mega auction is expected to be one of the most competitive and strategic to date, with 1,574 players registered and significant changes to the auction regulations.
Cricket fans eagerly await the 2025 IPL auction, a huge event. New talent and the potential for intriguing team combinations are brought about by the auction. Only the second time the IPL auction has been held abroad, this year's event is scheduled for November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
IPL 2025 Date and Location:
The auctions will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, over two days on November 24 and 25, 2025. This choice to hold it abroad, particularly in the Middle East, highlights the IPL globally and appeals to the region's expanding cricket fan base. Mega auctions typically start in the middle of the morning and last late into the evening, with both days being jam-packed with player auctions, however, exact start timings have not yet been finalized.
Players registration:
An incredible 1,574 players have signed up for the 2025 IPL auction:
- 1,165 players from India
- 409 players from abroad
There is a wide range of experience in this lineup:
- 320 players with caps who have played for their country
- 1,224 players without caps
- Thirty players from the Associate Nations
The Right-to-Match (RTM) Option and Retentions:
IPL franchises have kept 46 players in total before the auction, for a total cost of ₹558.5 crore. Up to six players, a mix of capped and uncapped players, could be kept by each squad. Notably: Up to five Indian or foreign-captained players and two uncapped Indian players, each worth ₹4 crore, may be retained by each team. The entire ₹120 crore auction prize is subtracted from each team's retention costs. Prior to the auction, teams may keep up to six players. Only five of these players are eligible for caps; the other two are not. Depending on their retention tactics, different teams have different numbers of RTM possibilities.
Mumbai Indians: Suryakumar Yadav (₹16.35 crore), Rohit Sharma (₹16.30 crore), and Jasprit Bumrah (₹18 crore)
Chennai Super Kings: Ravindra Jadeja (₹18 crore), MS Dhoni (₹4 crore), and Ruturaj Gaikwad (₹18 crore)
Royal Challengers Bengaluru's: Rajat Patidar (₹11 crore), Virat Kohli (₹21 crore)
Squad Size and Limit:
Up to 25 players, including a maximum of eight foreign players, may be included in each franchise's team for the 2025 Indian Premier League.
