There are numerous examples of celebrities participating in cricket matches. This has contributed to the sport's globalization and growth in popularity. Shahrukh Khan and Preity Zinta, two of the biggest names in Indian Bollywood, are among the many celebrities who have participated in the IPL and supported their teams.
In addition to Bollywood actors, some Hollywood celebrities have also shared their passion for cricket. One such celebrity is Ed Sheeran, a four-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter from the UK who participated in an interview with India captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill on Gaurav Kapoor's "Breakfast with Champions." The 33-year-old musician also disclosed that he was good friends with Shane Warne, the renowned Australian leg spinner who died three years ago at the age of fifty-two from a heart attack.
Ed Sheeran's Indian Cricket Debut:
In India, Ed Sheeran seemed to be having a great time. The international music sensation took his passion for cricket to the next level by joining the Rajasthan Royals at their camp after meeting the England cricket squad in Pune while performing. And the visit wasn't brief. The Royals players were thrilled by Ed's shots after he picked up a bat. Ed Sheeran, who is well-known for hits like Shape of You and Perfect, shocked everyone by showing off his cricket prowess.
Ed appeared to be a member of the team, wearing a Rajasthan Royals shirt with the name of the great Shane Warne on the back. It became quite the spectacle when Ed Sheeran was at the nets. Tushar Deshpande and Riyan Parag joined him for a brief knock, and the English singer displayed an unexpectedly strong bat swing. After being impressed, Parag said that he wasn't prepared for Ed to swing that cleanly.
The Rajasthan Royals have had three fantastic seasons. They advanced to the 2022 championships and, while missing out on the playoffs in 2023, bounced back last season, finishing third after falling to Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2024.
