On Sunday, stand-in captain Riyan Parag exhaled with relief when the Rajasthan Royals won their first IPL 2025 match on their third try. Rajasthan defeated Chennai Super Kings in their final home game in Guwahati following a thrilling match against the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad in their opening match on Wednesday. However, Parag received a substantial fine for breaking an IPL rule during the game.

Riyan Parag, the captain of the Rajasthan Royals (RR), was fined INR 12 lakh for keeping up a slow over-rate against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the (IPL 2025) Indian Premier League. On March 30, RR won by a slim margin of six runs at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati; however, the team could not finish their overs in the allotted time, which resulted in Parag's penalty.

Riyan Parag in trouble:

After the Rajasthan Royals maintained a sluggish over-rate against Chennai at the Barsapara Stadium, the BCCI punished Parag on Monday. According to Article 2.22 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate infractions, Parag was charged with INR 12 lakhs because it was the team's first offence of the current season.

After Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya was punished following the match against the Gujarat Titans, Parag became the second captain in IPL 2025 to be penalized for a sluggish over-rate. At a meeting of team captains in Mumbai on March 20, it was decided to penalize captains monetarily instead of suspending them. Captains who commit slow over-rate offenses will be penalized demerit points under the new rule, which will be calculated over a three-year period.

In spite of the penalty, the Royals defeated CSK with a strong showing, earning their first victory of the year. With an impressive 81 off 36 balls, Nitish Rana was the standout batsman, and Wanindu Hasaranga's four wickets made sure CSK missed the 183-run mark. In the last over, Sandeep Sharma of RR remained composed, removing MS Dhoni and limiting CSK to 176/6. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja's late appearance gave the previous champions hope, while CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad had an outstanding innings with a half-century. But for the majority of the game, Parag and his team maintained control because of their bowlers' efficient execution of strategies.
