IPL Suspension Update: Jitesh Sharma Was Supposed to Captain RCB After Patidar's Injury

Jitesh Sharma disclosed that he was on the verge of captaining RCB during their May 9 match against LSG, which was postponed due to a week-long suspension of IPL 2025. Due to a finger injury, RCB captain Rajat Patidar was expected to miss the match.

Rajat Patidar, the captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), is presently recuperating from a finger injury that would have prevented him from playing in a few games if the IPL 2025 had gone according to plan. However, because of cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, the 18th edition of the IPL was halted for a week. This allowed the batter enough time to recuperate without missing any games.

The RCB captain was asked to wear a splint and forego ten days of training after Patidar suffered a finger injury during the team's May 3 victory over CSK, according to ESPN Cricinfo. As a result, the MP batter would not have been present at the May 13 home match versus SRH or the LSG encounter. According to Jitesh, he and his family were thrilled to be granted the chance to captain RCB against LSG. The wicketkeeper stated that he was already considering Rajat Patidar and Devdutt Padikkal's replacements for the game's starting lineup.

Jitesh Sharma's Big Setback:

Before the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stopped the IPL on May 8, RCB relied on Jitesh Sharma to captain the squad against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Friday due to the injury to the Indore-born cricketer.

On RCB Bold Diaries, Jitesh said, "I was very grateful for the opportunity given to me. They were giving me an opportunity to captain RCB, and it's a very big thing for me and my family. I was thinking of what the right combination would be because both Devdutt [Padikkal] and Rajat were not available, and it was a big responsibility to replace them. And as per the position we were on the points table, we would have won this game. All of this was going on in my head, and all the meetings with coaches and players in those two to three days, batting order, and discussions with bowlers. I had good fun."

The coaching staff and all of RCB's foreign players had already departed India, but they were urged to wait in case the competition resumed. With three games left, RCB is in second place in the standings with 16 points.
